Venkata Ramaiah Gampa is a Professor of Telugu in the Department of Indian Languages and Literary Studies at the University of Delhi. He has been a Professor since April 2023, before which he served as an Associate Professor from April 2020 to April 2023, and an Assistant Professor from April 2008 to April 2020 at the same university.
Professor Venkata Ramaiah's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Telugu from the University of Hyderabad (2011), with a thesis on 'Telugu Sahityam - Charitraka Vimarsha'. He also holds an M.Phil. and an M.A. (2002-2004) from the University of Hyderabad in Telugu. His undergraduate studies were completed at Sri Venkateshwara University (1999-2002), where he studied History, Political Science, and Telugu Special.
His research interests and specialisation include Literary Criticism, Ancient and Medieval Indian Literature, and Modern Telugu. He has extensive teaching experience since 2008, covering subjects such as Research Methodology, Ramayana traditions in Indian Literature, Indian Literary Theories, and Literature and Human Rights.
Professor Venkat has guided several research works, with 6 Ph.D. and 16 M.Phil. degrees awarded under his supervision and 17 M.A. dissertations. He has also been the Principal Investigator for eight minor research projects funded by the University of Delhi, focusing on topics like 'Essence of Stylesheet in Telugu Research' (2023-2024), 'Convergence and Divergence: Telugu literature in New Media" (2022-2023), and 'Globalization and Human Rights in the Select Indian Fiction' (2022-2021).
He has authored several books, including 'Chaitanyaaruneeyam (Literary Essays)' (2023). He has edited or co-edited works such as 'Unsettled Lives: Stories of Displacement in Indian Literature' (2023) and "Telugu Writings in English: New Perspectives" (2019). He has also published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals on various Telugu language and literature aspects.
Professor Venkat has been recognised with honours, including the Ugadi Puraskaram from the Department of Telugu, Madras University (2023), the Janapada Kala Peetham Award (2018), and the Adileela Education Excellence Award (2014). He has actively participated in and organised numerous national and international seminars and conferences, often serving as a resource person or convener. His public service roles at the University of Delhi include Nodal officer for Admissions, Convener of the Undergraduate Telugu syllabus committee, and a member of various other academic committees.
